"Let’s be honest; she’s just an excellent vocalist. She brings a professional, relaxed approach to both studio and stage."
- Sam Mabley, Singer-Songwriter
Lead Vocals
For those of you who need to hear my voice in a lead capacity, I’d better give you some options. Here’s a selection of tracks that best capture my voice in a rich variety of styles & genres - from dance-pop to mellow indie.
Live Recordings
There’s nothing quite like live music. It’s a unique moment, set aside from the rest of time.
Check out this live recording of the classic Nina Simone song, “Feeling Good” at St George’s Concert Hall in Bristol.
Studio BVs
The best BVs are heard but not seen - and it'll take a particularly well-trained ear to pick them out. A couple of examples for you here. Firstly, a series of layered BVs for one of Samm's demo tracks. Yet to be released, but he gave me permission to share it here. (What a gem).
And then something a little different - a clip of the ‘mermaid vocals’ I recorded for the mini-musical Florence & the Mermaid’s Tears, that opened in October 2021. Never thought I’d be in front of a microphone pretending to be a sea creature, but then again, why not?!
I’ve also tacked on a song, “Wild One”, where I actually sang lead line for The Translator - an epic pop and trance producer. But it’s a good example of lead line studio vocals and there are plenty of improvisations and BVs dotted around it too.
Duets
Sometimes two is just better than one. This is a little candid example of me duetting my heart out at one of my best friend's weddings. Yes, it’s a wide shot and not the best quality, but it captures a beautiful moment! Just wait for the build at the end…
